“It will be a fast and funny race”

We’re, without a doubt, behind one of the biggest talents from our national scene. Specialist in CX and dominating the young categories of MTB, Jofre Cullell (Megamo) will debut in his first YoPRO Catalunya Bike Race ever. The current Spanish U23 XCO Champion wants to leave his trace.

We finally have you in the YoPRO Catalunya Bike Race. Usually it was at the same time as your CX pre-season. How come we can see you in this year’s edition?

This year we’ve seen that without participating in stage races I’ve won a lot of positions in the UCI ranking, that’s why this YoPRO Catalunya Bike Race will do us good to finish the season and try to get some extra points that will be perfect for that UCI ranking. What also motivates me is the fact that I get to be in a stage competition and home.

Without doubt you are one of the best cyclist with the best future ahead of you. Do you feel pressured about that? The fact that everyone expects you to be at the top…

Not at all. It’s my first stage competition and we know, me, my team and my coach, that we are here to participate. Let’s see what happens. I’ve done a lot of races this year and I don’t know how my body is going to react. Our idea is try and see how I do in this type of competition and participate without any pressure.

We’ve seen you at the podium, a few weeks ago, in the Lenzerheide Sub23 World Cup. With the good rhythm you have, is it your goal to be in the podium here as well?

Hopefully! There will be a lot of competition, people with a lot more experience than me and they will be prepared for this specific type of stages. In my case, I’m here to try it and end my MTB season.

What type of stages are you expecting? Also having in mind that the Olympic Games are next year and that we are in a UCI race…

I think there will be a great favourite group excited to gain a lot of points for this Olympic meeting. From what I’ve heard it will be a fast and funny one.

You have the YoPRO Catalunya Bike Race queen as a teammate. What advice did Clàudia Galicia give you? Or what did she tell you about this competition?

It’s her training territory, so, her advice is well welcome. Really fast stages with singletracks and a few trials. She also said that there are a lot of fast segments.

What motivates you from this 2019 edition?

Debuting in a stage competition and the excitement of trying my best among cyclist with this high level.
